Podcast Paper
For my podcast, I will be looking at the topic of school lunches around East Lansing. I think this is an important topic because many of our country’s children are not getting nutritious food to eat during the school day and for many kids it is the only meal they get for hours. In a world where the pressure to do extracurricular activities is incredibly high a student may only get to eat during lunch and not have time to go home to eat dinner. When I was in high school I would go from 12:30 until 8:00 sometimes not eating because of sports practice and leading other clubs after that. I relied on my lunch to be able to get me through the day and many schools don’t offer a way for their student to get that.
I think that this topic is very relevant to not only students but even adults without children. These people will one day be reliant for the kids in school now to be able to make smart choices for the future of the country. My plan would be to interview high school lunch directors in the area about their budgets and where their food comes from. I could also interview any interested students about how they feel about the lunches schools offer and any alternatives they think could improve them. There are many resources available on the quality of school lunches and how much is being spent on free and reduced lunches that I can use for my topic. I believe it is a very doable topic and is important to learn about for the sake of the community.
